New Years is always full of pressure and dollars spent. Your friends are in town and they want to have a good time. Your girl wants a romantic spot to share that midnight kiss. You don’t want to deal with crowds. Or perhaps you want to get Native American wasted and fist pump at the douchiest of clubs. There are a myriad of options and obstacles (money chief among them), but thankfully there are options close to home here in the East Bay!
Eric Arnold compiled a dope list of functions worthy of your business, so check out their listings below. Where will we be? Most likely sweating up the dance floor at New Parish’s monthly People Party and then watching Jennifer Johns, Martin Luther and Los Rakas murk the stage next door at Hibiscus. And of course we’ll be at the under-spot in West Oakland for the post 2am festivities watching The Get back show you how to tear up a living room. It’s gonna be a good ass night wherever you settle. Just remember not to bring stress into 2012. It’s going to be a great year, and we deserve to ball out with our peoples stress free!
On the responsible tip however, don’t drink and drive-and don’t ride with anybody who does. Tipsy Tow is offered by AAA: You don’t have to be a AAA member, from 6pm-6am on New Year’s Eve/Day they will take your drunk ass and your car home for FREE.99 Save this number… 1-800-222-4357.
EAST BAY NEW YEARS OPTIONS COURTESY OF ERIC ARNOLD & OAKLANDLOCAL

Oakland’s popular scenester dance party event regularly results in block-long lines in its monthly incarnation. Expect a packed house – full of all your fave peeps, plus several of your exes and/or current crushes – for the NYE edition.
Stay East Bay @ Oakland Metro
This DJ-oriented affair features no less than 10 (!) record-slingers, with one room tilting toward funk, soul, R&B, hip-hop and Latin jams, and the other more on the electronic music/house/dubstep side of things.
TTS NYE 2012 @ Hibiscus
Located in the same building as the New Parish, the Caribbean-Creole fusion restaurant Hibiscus takes on a cozy speakeasy vibe, with two rooms, one with DJs Nina Del Sol, Manny Black and Don Guapo, and the other featuring live music by Jennifer Johns and Martin Luther.
New Year’s Eve @ SomaR
We’ll excuse the fine folks at SomaR for not coming up with a more imaginative title for their fete. Why? Because it’s only $5 at the door and you get a complimentary glass of champagne, as DJ SoulProfes spins for the “ballin’ on a budget” crowd. Did we mention it’s only $5 at the door?
Super Bass @ Bench and Bar
An LGBT-themed party for the fierce and fabulous with multiple rooms, VIP lounge, balloon drop, complimentary champagne and DJs playing house, hip-hop, R&B and old-school. And, it goes until 4 a.m.
NYE BASH @ the Uptown
“Gothic swing” band Lee Presson & the Nails headlines this night of burlesque/cabaret and live music, which also features Hubba Hubba Revue faves like Lady Satan, the Dolls of Doom, Honey Lawless and Bunny Pistol. Complimentary champagne at midnight.
New Year’s Masquerade @ Linden Dance
Procrastinators be warned: This popular NYE ballroom dancing event sells out every year.
New Year’s Eve Masquerade for OSA @ New Commodity Warehouse
Billed as a “N’awlins-style” bash, this party is a benefit for the Oakland School for the Arts. It features live performances by OSA vocal students, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a champagne toast at midnight.
